White Teeth & Dating

A smile says so much about a person and a lot of people are self-conscious about their teeth, and it affects their confidence. The funny thing is people spend loads of money on clothes, hair and makeup and yet most don’t stop to think about keeping their teeth white and attractive until it gets really bad.

Stained and discolored teeth can affect people no matter what the situation from business to personal. And when you don’t look and feel your best people can sense it. So something simple like a home teeth whitening product can make all the difference

Imagine going on a blind date and from a distance your date looks really hot, I mean they’re wearing the latest designer Jeans, cool sun glasses and even an amazing haircut and then he or she smiles… and all you see is yellow and discolored teeth!

This even translates into the business world when you are meeting someone for an interview. I know it seems a bit plastic or even superficial but first impressions count, especially in job interviews.

Now I am not saying everyone thinks like that but, using a teeth whitening product could just be just the thing when you need to be seen in the best light. Like making the right impression for that job promotion or business deal.

I think the usual suspects are red wine, tea, smoking and foods - with loads of coloring like juices and tomato based sauces. However, the biggest factor is making sure have good dental hygiene because over time your teeth age just like everything else

Choosing the best teeth whitening products can be a little tricky and so I checked out some of the options:

1. Laser Treatment at your dentist - I have heard this can whiten teeth fast but it doesn’t come cheap and if you are smoker you would need to keep on going back again which can get kind of expensive to keep your teeth white.

2. Bleaching trays - Again you would need to see your dental technician and have them taking up all your precious free time while they poked around in your mouth. Also they can be really messy.

I did not like the sound of either of these 2 options because of the costs, hassle and time wasted - I mean you want to get your teeth whitened but it doesn’t have to be such a pain or expense?

3. Home teeth whitening kits - Now this to me seems like the best option because you get to decide when to whiten your teeth, it doesn’t take up all your free time driving to the dentist paying for parking and then hanging around for your turn. Plus if you look around you will find there are some great teeth whitening products which offer a free trial and their stuff works - I think that is just common sense! So when you are looking for best home teeth whitening products you could go also down to the local drug store. Go searching through the aisles, pickup a load of different offers but it difficult to be sure which is going to work and you’ve already paid.

There are even basic teeth whitening toothpastes but if your teeth are affecting how you feel about yourself then getting a proper home teeth whitening kit seems to be the best option.

I looked into a few products but finally found one that ticks all the boxes

* No messy strips or trays
* No costly dental visits
* Helps remove plaque
* Easy to apply in seconds
* Professional results at home

If you are looking to be more confident about your smile and feel you could use a quick easy solution then this could be the answer. Why not give it a free trial and if it works then great, if not just end the trial and it’s cost you nothing - Sounds like a Win-Win to me.

Get Rid of Your Dry Mouth

Having bad breath can really destroy the reputation of a person, or kill any chance that person has of having a reputation at all.

Bad breath, or technically known as Halitosis, is caused by the build-up of bacteria in the mouth and tongue, but is not only cause by such, since bad breath can also come from sinus problems, gum disease, tonsil infections and even the stomach.

For a lot of people, having bad breath can ruin everything: it can ruin your career, it can ruin your love life, it can ruin your social life, heck it can ruin your entire life. But there are steps you can take to finally wash away that dry mouth that causes bad breath.

The first thing you need to do is accept that you have bad breath. But this can be hard to swallow, since a person might never know if he/she actually has bad breath. The solution to this is having friends who care about you and your well-being.

If you have halitosis, and your friends care about you, they will tell you upfront, without sugarcoating anything. This will be the best first step in curing your bad breath.

More often than not, your bad breath is caused by having a dry mouth. With this minor problem, the most obvious solution is to brush your teeth.

Brush your teeth in the morning, evening, and every after meals to prevent food from sticking in between your teeth, which causes bad breath when bacteria releases sulfides in breaking down the leftovers inside the mouth.

Also, by brushing your mouth frequently, you eliminate bacteria that, when cultured, can also be a cause of bad breath. While you are at it, brush your tongue as well, especially the back part where it is mostly dry and is a common area where germs promulgate. Also remember to change your toothbrush regularly.

As dry mouth causes bad breath, you should avoid things that give you dry mouth, such as avoiding mouthwash with dyes and alcohol.

Use mouthwash containing cetylpiridinium chloride, chlorine dioxide, sodium chlorite, and zinc as these may act as antibacterial agents, controlling the number of anaerobic bacteria in your mouth, thus leading to fresher breath.

Avoid alcohol and smoking in general, and if you do drink or smoke, do wash your mouth with water and the juice of half a lemon before sleeping to eliminate dry mouth and wake up with a fresher breath than usual.

Chewing gum can also help in the production of saliva, virtually eliminating a dry mouth. Also, a dry mouth is usually associated with a dry tongue, so the tongue should always be cleaned as well.

Not only should it be brushed along with the teeth, but it should be cleaned on its own, and this can be achieved by using a tongue cleaner. Putting a small amount of antibacterial mouth rinse or tongue gel on the surface of the tongue will also slow down the bacterial action even with a dry mouth.

Watching what you eat is also beneficial. Eat a healthy breakfast with rough foods so as it will help clean the back of the tongue that you normally have trouble reaching when you brush your teeth or when using a tongue scraper.

Drink plenty of water not only for the need to drink 6-8 glasses, but also so that your dry mouth will be well-moistened. In lieu of dieting, do consider eating fibrous and other healthy foods to prevent constipation, which in some cases, might be the cause of bad breath.

Avoid eating foods with refined carbohydrates and sugars like cookies, sweets, cakes, carbonated soft drinks, ice creams, and syrups, because these foods can cause your teeth to deteriorate if not brushed properly.

If all else fails and your dry mouth still remains, do consider going to the doctor. There are hundreds of dental clinics out there that can diagnose and treat bad breath.

They use different methods and technologies such as a Halimeter, which tests for sulfur emission levels in the mouth air, wherein, if used properly, can be very effective in determining levels of sulfur-producing bacteria present.

Another device that measures sulfur levels is a Gas chromatography. A BANA test, on the other hand, measures the salivary levels of an enzyme that can indicate presence of some halitosis-related bacteria, and a β-galactosidase test which tests for the enzyme which were found to be correlated with oral malodor.

Your dry mouth can be easily resolved by simple brushing, keeping your mouth wet, and eating right. However, do note that some of the treatments above are merely there to mask the odor, and there is still a possibility that the odor will come back.

Ultimately, if bad breath persists, you need to consult a doctor to make sure that your halitosis can be treated properly, and when you do, the days of your being humiliated will finally be put to an end.

Teaching the little ones to brush properly…

It’s never too early to begin teaching your children how to brush their teeth correctly. Even the smallest toddler is capable of learning this simple task. Not sure where to begin your first tooth-brushing lesson?

Here are a few pointers offered by seasoned parents.

Step # 1: Show your child how to hold the toothbrush.

It may seem instinctual to us adults, but believe it or not, toddlers honestly do not know the proper way to hold their toothbrush. So be sure to begin by showing them the proper way to hold that toothbrush - with their thumb on the underside of the handle and the bristles facing their teeth!

Step # 2: Demonstrate proper technique.

Kids love to mimic mommy and daddy, so take a few minutes to show your children how you brush your teeth. GO slowly now. You want them to learn to take their time to brush each tooth. If you rush through your demonstration, they will likely race trough their own brushing.

Step # 3: Teach them about all of their teeth.

The biggest mistake new brushers make it to either brush only the front teeth; or only the bottoms. Those poor side teeth rarely get the attention they deserve. Be sure to tell your kids all about their front, top, back, and bottom teeth in order to help them remember to brush them all. Some parents make up silly rhymes or songs to help their kids remember, while others simply explain what the job of each type of tooth is to make them realize how important each tooth really is.

Step # 4: Be sure to give your child the right sized toothbrush.

Kids (especially small ones) need a special kids sized toothbrush in order to brush correctly. Be sure to buy the size that best fits your child’s growing mouth.

Step # 5: Start with a non-fluoridated toothpaste.

Toddlers rarely understand the importance of not swallowing while brushing, so be sure to use only non-fluoridated toothpaste until your child is old enough to brush without swallowing. While the right amount of fluoride is good for growing teeth; too much can permanently stain them.

Step # 6: Make it easy to reach the sink.

A child can’t brush correctly if they are straining to reach the sink. To avoid the 3-second tooth brushing, be sure to get your child a step stool so they can easily stand at the sink, fill their cup with water and rinse properly. Like the other tools you give your child for brushing, a step stool to help them get high enough up to the sink to feel comfortable is essential to ensure a good tooth brushing session.

When looking for a step stool, make sure that it lifts your child to just the right height (not too far and not too low) and is easy to move in the bathroom (a lightweight model is best).

Learning how to brush your teeth is an important skill that every child must learn, so why not do your best to help make the job as simple and fun as possible?

Flossing Tips!

  • If you live in Torrance area and looking for a Dentist, feel free to contact us.  Our friendly and caring staff is here to assist you.

Flossing Is Key

Getting into the habit of flossing your teeth can take a little effort, but it is worth trying to pull off.

When you start to floss, the first thing that will discourage you is the soreness your teeth and gums will feel for a few days. Once this passes, you won’t have any more problems, so hang in there.

Flossing gets the food and sugar particles off of the areas of your teeth that normal brushing can not reach, so the best time to do it is right before bed. That way you will have a clean and germ free mouth while you sleep.

There are a lot of reasons that flossing is a good idea, and here are just a few:

When you floss you are getting in between teeth and gums and digging out all the food particles that can lead to all sorts of dental problems.

Don’t think that just because toothbrushes are engineered to effective clean the mouth that flossing is no longer necessary. This is the farthest thing from the truth, and you should floss at least once a day.

Everyday we should floss at least once, and dentists agree that this is a good practice to develop. If it is practical, you can even floss after each meal for ideal oral cleanliness.

Flossing really gets into the gums and hard to access places and gets all that junk out of there. If you want to see a good demonstration of how to do it properly, just check out You Tube and there you can find plenty of free videos.

If you want, you can also just go to the dentist and they can show you what the right way to floss is. It is not hard to do, but sometimes a little tutorial can help out a lot. Once you get it down, your oral health will improve and your mouth will be clean and fresh every time.

10 Tips for Bad Breath

Are you looking for a cure for bad breath? Well, in order to find a cure for the odor, you need to educate yourself and learn about the causes of this disgusting condition, such as oral bacteria. Bad breath is not incurable. It can be stopped if you are willing to make the effort to cure it. Once you find the causes and learn how to treat and prevent them, you have found a cure for bad breath.

A large number of people suffered from bad breath and they are not realizing it themselves until someone pointed it up to them. It is an embarrassing problem to suffer from bad breath or halitosis. Not only will it lowers your confidence, it will also make those around you cautious to get too close. Halitosis can cause tremendous social embarrassment for you. It is certainly a handicap in many social situations. If you have stinky breath, people will never remember you by what you say, only by the bad smell that comes from your mouth.

Below are 10 Great Tips to Bad Breath Cure:

1. Brush Your Teeth Regularly

The best way to help your breath is to get rid of the bacteria on your gum lines, on your teeth and your tongue by regular brushing of your teeth daily. The minimum standard is to brush at least two or three times everyday and you must brush or scrape your tongue as well. Your tongue, especially the back of your tongue contains more bacteria that you can think of!

Use a good tongue scraper to get rid of those disgusting bacteria on your tongue. Your tongue is the place where the bad odor originates because of the bacteria that live in the texture of your tongue. You need to make sure that your tongue is free of such bacteria which causes halitosis. Unless you dislodge the bacteria, any mouthwash or gum you chew will only mask the breath caused by bacteria.

2. Rinse Your Teeth After Eating

After you eat, make sure to rinse out left over food particles in your mouth. Not only does rinsing your mouth helps to clear your mouth of any food particles that are stuck in your teeth, you can also rinse away the odor of the food that you’ve just eaten.

If you can, do invest in a good rinse product to help you fight bad breath. Rinsing is a very important part of combating bad breath. I recommend TheraBreath Oral Rinse to help you achieve a fresher and cleaner breath. Use this refreshing Oral Rinse after brushing with TheraBreath Toothpaste. The rinse uses the odor-obliterating power of OXYD-8 to fight halitosis and sour/bitter/metallic tastes.

3. Avoid Sodium Lauryl Sulfate In Toothpastes

Many toothpaste products include this product, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, so try and find one that doesn’t contain this chemical. You should also avoid mouth wash products that contain alcohol as it will only make your bad breath worse than ever. Invest in good toothpastes like the TheraBreath PLUS Toothpaste (Extra Strength). This exceptional toothpaste is proven to get rid of any bacteria in your mouth and is extremely effective in battling bad breath.

4. Avoid Breath Mints and/or Gum That Contain Sugar

While sucking a mint can help to temporarily relieve your symptoms, mints that contain sugar can make the problem worse. This is because bacteria loves sugar and it is sugar that they thrive on. If you consume such mints, you’re actually helping these bad-breath-causing bacteria to multiply considerably. Your breath condition will become worse if you continue to suck on mints or gums that contain sugar.

If you really want to use mints, TheraBreath’s ZOX Mints are the best mints that you should use to get rid of bad breath. TheraBreath’s ZOX Mints are the first ‘breath mint’ to actually neutralize VSC’s rather than mask them. Containing the same zinc/oxygen/xylitol formula used in TheraBreath products, ZOX will stimulate saliva flow and eliminate bad breath and taste for hours. No Sugar, All-Natural, and only 5 calories!

5. Eat Less Meat And More Vegetables & Fruits

Eating less meat and more fiber such as vegetables and fruits help fight halitosis effectively. If you want to cure your disgusting breath condition, snack on fresh raw vegetables and fruits such as parsley, celery, carrot apple and pear.

Parsley is particularly effective in combating halitosis because it contains chlorophyll, a chemical found in plants that is considered to be a natural breath freshener and can stop bad breath.

6. Drink Plenty Of Water When Taking Prescription Medications

Medications can make your mouth dry and cause Halitosis. Drinking plenty of water is especially important to you if you have to take long-term medication. Try to drink at least 8 glasses of water daily and make sure that it is pure drinking water and not juices or soft drinks. Drinking plenty of water helps to keep your mouth hydrated, as saliva is a natural antibacterial and helps flush down food particles in your mouth.

7. Stop Smoking

Nicotine in cigarettes is one of the biggest culprits of bad breath. Prolong exposure to cigarettes’ smoke will not only give you a stale and disgusting breath, it will also harm your health in the long-term. You’ll be much healthier if you quit now.

8. Keep Calm And Avoid Stress

Stress can actually make your breath worse so avoid stressful situations where possible. Learn to relax your mind, body and soul by listening to soothing and relaxation music and exercise frequently. Learn to think positively and adopt an optimistic and cheerful approach to life. Take life easy and enjoy life. By being stress-free, not only will you stop bad breath, your health will be much better off in the long-term.

9. Blow Your Nose Often To Get Rid Of Mucus

If you have a cold or allergies that result in post-nasal drip then your breath will get worse. Stops bad breath production beyond the sinus/throat area by using TheraBreath PLUS Nasal-Sinus Drops. This nasal-sinus drops by TheraBreath is extremely effective in removing the bacteria in your mucus which contributes to bad breath. By eliminating these disgusting bacteria in your sinus and throat area, your breath will become fresher and cleaner.

10. Eat More Yogurt

Eating food rich in acidophilus such as yogurt helps to balance the bacteria in the intestine to a healthy level and thus reduce halitosis. Yogurt is proven scientifically to be able to balance the good and bad bacteria in your intestine and hence contributes to curing halitosis. Your halitosis condition will improve and you will eventually cure bad breath naturally.

The above 10 bad breath cure tips are proven to effectively cure bad breath or halitosis. Nonetheless, you must do your part in combating bad breath by practicing good oral hygiene. You should also eat well, sleep well and have regular exercises to keep your body healthy and fit. By doing all these, you will be able to maintain a fresh and clean breath and get rid of bad breath permanently.
